Radius by Sysirauta Radius by Sysirauta
Finally a design for this thing who has been in plan since 2008... Radius is his name, metal furred creature, third child of wind spirit Coyote.

Most noticeable feature of Radius is his metal sheet fur, combination of his metal skinned mother and fluffy father Zihinsel. As well as this fur shines like steel, it somewhat sounds like steel when Radius moves, so he is not the one to move silently. His claws, skins and fur all have metallic tone, thought his eyes and inner organs are soft and biological.
Physical structure includes long neck, two toes on front legs and four toes on hind legs. (see this ref...it's a bit uneven but gives main idea for these explanations). Three teeth both sides of upper jaw are longer and are seen outside. At first it may look like he could open his mouth very wide, but has just a long dent alongside jaw parts. He has stretchy membranes which are seen when he opens his mouth. His eyes polarize light, so his fur's shine won't harm him. Radius doesn't have a tail neither a horn. "Horn" is just a bunch of metal fur sheets together. Tail part is just many long metallic ribbon-like sheets. They don't float by their own or anything, but metal structure and Radius moving makes them turn and shift randomly.
Metal fur grows and drops like any fur, so every now and then somebody may find random piece of Radius's fur, or ever tail. Metal fur includes so much keratin that it cannot be melted and casted, it mainly burns and smokes much. These fur sheets can made a nice decoration for somebody, though.
Radius has two half-siblings, Flumeus and Liquidus. As well as them, Radius is sterile creature and unable to breed.

Liner, colour pencils, copics.

Aw, I like its face. Smug little thing. :3
Looks like you put in a lot of work into these designs and stuff, especially the scientific stuff like polarising light..suddenly metal-furred creatures feel plausible as real animals..
And metal fur is awesome. Shiny~

Let's say that I like fictional things much more when there's some kind of clever scientific sounding explanation. (Curse my inner realist.) x> It's nice to know HOW things happen, not just "swing the magic wand and this apple is now a mouse". Did you know how impossible material transformation really is? And how about soul theory? Common brain function? How this apple mouse would know how to act like a mouse? Why it's even alive? ... Just for example. I can give good explanation why ice is not an element - but still I like playing Pokémon and use ice attacks because they're cool.
...
I like this metal fur idea, but to draw it...not. It's time taking job to make it good looking.

I think the human brain works like that. We want to make sense of everything even they don't make sense at all..
Well I like things with cool in-depth explanations too, but I won't expect cartoony things to have too deep explanations behind their nonsense xD Though I think with more realistic things it's nice to have that explanation.

Yeah..but it's amazing that you can draw so many of those metal furs and still give it depth. I mean all the furs look metal and pop-up, and aren't flat or anything..

I can tell I spent a lot of time with that fur... One sharp pen and enough patience. <_<

...If I ever try to hug him I'll be -DEAD-. No seriously D; if he moves a little... ><

But this is such a cool design, really like it! x3
